External Spur Gears & Splines

Geartronics has met our customers’ requirements for external gears and splines in numerous configurations, a wide-range of sizes, and various materials for over 80 years. Our experienced technicians will work with you to meet your requirements for a standard, modified or custom gear tooth profile in single quantities or thousands of parts. External spur gears are used to transmit power and motion between parallel shafts and are, by far, the most common type of gear used in the largest number of applications. The have teeth that are both straight and parallel to the axis of rotation and are usually produced from cylindrical gear blanks. The involute profile of spur gear teeth allows for smooth operation between mating gears and permits greater variations in mounting distances without affecting proper gear action.

External splines typically have teeth cut on the outside diameter of a drive shaft parallel to the axis of shaft rotation. The teeth of splines may be of various forms including involute, crowned, parallel, or serrated. Shafts with external splines typically mate with components having internal splines to transmit torque and motion in the same axis.

We provide gears with hubs, keyways, slots, internal splines, cross holes, threaded holes, and just about any other machined feature required. We’ll ensure that your requirements for heat treating, plating, marking and testing are met. We can also cut gear teeth on blanks that you supply or supply machined gear blanks to you for further processing.
