Converts a standard ratchet or socket drive tool to a torque limiting wrench.

Perf-A-Torq™ is a totally new concept in precision torque control devices. It attaches to any standard driving tool to provide the ultimate in torque control. The user sets the desired torque limit, and when that torque value is reached the unit releases with an audible click. Force applied cannot exceed the setting.

Perf-A-Torq™ combines compactness, a new torque set locking feature, and a unique resettable torque limit design to maintain strictest torque control. The Perf-A-Torq™ limiter can be set up for accurate repeatability in standards control, assembly reliability, production line consistency — any application where precision control is imperative. When a different torque limit is required, resetting is simple and quick.

This versatile torque limiter is now used for assembly and inspection operation in a broad range of industries.

Available in two drive sizes for use with 3/8" and 1/2" drive tools. Torque limits to 1440 lb. in.

SELECTION GUIDE

Where possible, select a Perf-A-Torq™ model that meets the expected torque demands at about midrange. Example: for torque values around 420 inch pounds, select model 12B with range of 240 to 600, and midrange of 420.

Perf-A-Torq™ limiting attachments can be set up and maintained for any torque control applications. The unit's low cost makes it an ideal tool for assembly and production line torquing procedures, where repetitive.

Powered Applications and Limits

Although designed for use as a hand driven device, Perf-A-Torq™ can be adapted to automatic or machine smooth run applications where the use is intermittent and at relatively slow speeds (300 rpm maximum). Higher speeds cause overheating and can destroy the accuracy. Impact style driving tools should not be used.

Setting Torque Limit is Easy

• Attach any calibrated torque indicator to ouptut stub (1) and determine present torque setting while holding the body (5), or vice-versa.
• Remove snap ring (2) and locking plate (3).
• Adjust nut (4) with open-end wrench — clockwise to increase torque, counter-clockwise to decrease torque.
• Obtain new torque reading with the calibrated torque indicator. Repeat preceding step if more adjustment is necessary to reach desired limit.
• Replace locking plate into notches and install snap ring. If locking plate does not "seat," move the adjusting nut slightly until it drops in place. The direction is best determined by whether a minimum torque application or a maximum one is desired.

When used with an X-4 torque multiplier Model LW750, the torque limiting range of any of the Model 12 (1/2" drive) Perf-A-Torq™ can be increased approximately 3.40 times.

Statement of Performance Expectation

Within any given model, the desired setting must be achieved by the user when pre-setting each tool.

The design of the locking plate does not allow infinite adjustment. Within each 360 degrees of adjustment, only a certain number of locking points are possible. Check the tool for the closest point to the desired release point. If the locking plate will not "seat" in the tool, turn the adjusting nut either slightly cw (increasing the torque release) or ccw (decreasing torque release). The direction of that small adjustment is best determined by whether a minimum torque or maximum toque is desired.

The standard X-4 Perf-A-Torq™ Torque Limiter is designed to be used as a torque limiter in either the clockwise or the counterclockwise direction.

When the torque release setting is established in either direction, clockwise or counterclockwise, the user may expect repeatability from release-to-release with ±5 percent of setting. Generally, however, as you approach the midrange or higher of any particular model, the repeatability percentage from release-to-release will improve. In models 38A, 38B, 12A and 12B there are 12 releases in 360 degrees (every 30 degrees). In model 12D there are 18 releases (every 20 degrees) and in model 12E there are 24 releases (every 15 degrees).
